The hair stands up on the back of my neck when people mention "Harbor Freight"... For tools, I like Snap-on (the old stuff, 70's and older...) MAC, Proto, Williams, Plumb, anything USA made with some character to it, they won't let you down.
We're a 90 mile round trip from the nearest "big city", and the choices there suck too. China made crap, with different brand names, at slightly different prices. I was able to get a real good price local on a BIG 4 way lug wrench for the D300, Ken-Tool 36590 if I remember right...
Found it for $40, same as any online price without waiting a month from one of those eBay "superstores"! $55 from NAPA, who tried to sell me a different part number because he told me that tool has been "superseded" which may be true, but you can still get the older one. Pays to do your homework... more than ever, and to ask, where is it made, and to stand your ground on this China junk. I've sick and tired of it for too long.
Hey, I got an idea!
How about if, as part of this "stimulus", we give people here jobs making stuff that you see in the stores that's all made in China? Gee, what an idea... If only I could get a few million to study it.
Instead, it's going the other way, and people are losing their jobs... I don't understand... (Duh, dumb ol me), is there a correlation between these two "phenomenons"?
