Looks like a pretty sweet truck! The 5th wheel rig is mildly hilarious, but also cool. -Kle.

Just randomly saw this truck street-parked in Mystic this afternoon. Not really my thing, but very pretty. Besides, since it actually isn't mine, who cares if it's not my thing? -Kle.

Great news! How much bigger are the later tanks (the earlier ones are 18s)? I wonder if they'd fit in an older truck? -Kle.

Interesting. I wonder if just the tranny was swapped, or if a 318 out of a car with an 833 attached already was put in as a unit? -Kle.

Maybe I'm being dumb, but why not just take it apart and measure it? It's gotta come apart anyway... Alternately, does anybody here know if the 833 was the optional close-ratio unit? If so, maybe we can figure out the clutch size from the old repair materials. -Kle. P.S. - high five for being a Sweptie guy in the UK! Must be fun with the petrol, shows real dedication!

Or the tank ground might be weak, or the wire between tank and gauge is bad. -Kle.

Sounds like maybe the rheostat on the sender is dead? I'd love to hear more about the tank you bought - where from, and where is it going to mount on the truck? I want an aux tank for mine, but all I can find are little cylindrical hot-rod tanks that can go where the old saddle tanks were, and they are only around ten gallons apiece. -Kle.

Me, too. Always wanted one of those. It would never pay for itself in gas savings, but it would allow me to exceed the limits of the chassis with fewer revs, or something. Still want one. -Kle.

Yeah, my impression of the 361 and 413 "dash" truck/RV engines has always been that they are tough as nails, but I have never had one. I would think 12 possible, if you build for it. -Kle.

I've never had a 361, and never got around to modifying the fuel system on my long-ago 318 Sweptie, but replacing the 2 barrel carbs on my 383 Polara and 383 W-200 with, respectively, an Edelbrock 1406 4 barrel and a Holley 2300 (500CFM) 2-barrel got me better running and same or better fuel economy. Obviously, I can get bad mileage if I keep my foot way in, but the same can be said of

We're kind of looking at the difference between 10 and 10 here, aren't we? I do get 11 with some regularity from my '69 W-200 crew with the 383 and a Holley 2300 on an adapter plate, but the '66 D-200 I had years ago with a 318 and the BBD got 10 like clockwork under almost all conditions. -Kle.

Ha, just finally got around to this yesterday. It was indeed the single-bolt type, with the dreadful nylon teeth - must've been original, after almost 50 years and about a hundred ten thousand miles. Nylon was disintegrating so badly that there was about an inch and a quarter slop in thee chain, and we could remove the chain from the sprockets while installed. Now has a nice st

So, there is another shift lever... where does it go? Was this set-up ever used for 4WD versions, or does the aux. tranny essentially go where the transfer case goes? Are both transmissions clutched at the same time with the same pedal, or something weirder? Is the aux unit shift pattern the same as a regular 3-speed, or something else? Does it have a neutral, or does it just neutralize off

As an aside, can you tell me about the installation and operation of the auxiliary transmission? I have heard about them, and read repair stuff in Motors manuals, but I have never seen one in person. I've never had any real idea how they actually worked, in practice. -Kle.

What gears do you have in the truck? Mine has 4.10s, and I already get 60mph at 2500 rpm... -Kle.

This guy from the header links seems to have a passenger's door: For the hood, try E-Bay, and or check with some of the big Western junkyards online... I figure you've already checked local yards. Can;t see the filler neck, but that's the usual location for reserve saddle tanks. -Kle.

Weird, my '67 Polara has the 3 bolt cam, and it was originally a plain-Jane 2 barrel car. Doesn't seem unusually peppy either, so if somebody replaced the cam somewhen before I bought it 13 years ago... IDK why. Thanks for the info! I will update after we do the job, with the ground truth of my engine. -Kle.

So, sources disagree whether the camshaft gear on my truck should have a 3 bolt attachment or a 1 bolt attachment (I am redoing the leaky timing cover gasket, and I figured might as well do the chain set while it's off - especially if it turns out to have a nylon gear). I have just ordered one of each and will return whichever we don't use, but I figured I'd ask the forum knowledge

Nah, I was unclear. Sorry. When you take the regulator apart, there are two wires that go to the electromagnet coil. It's those tiny wires that have been vaporizing - when one blows, the circuit stays closed on charge, and when the other one blows, the circuit remains open, though there is still a weak charge generated. Seems like there's some kind of intermittent grounding prob
