How many wires do you have running to your alternator? What color are they? John

Per my most recent post, I just installed the TWO FIELD alternator in my truck with a '70 wiring harness which includes the electronic voltage regulator. I have three wires in my harness now hooked to the alternator. They are: 1)The BLACK battery wire 2)The LIGHT GREEN field wire 3)The ORANGE field wire Are you now saying that I need an ADDITIONAL ground wire running from the gr

I apologize for rubbing you the wrong way. My post, although meant to be humorous, apparently came across to you differently. The main thrust of my posts was to dispute the "one year only" assertion regarding the NP435D3. I guess we all now know that a single solitary "3" can make all the difference. John

I had a decent looking '77 dual field alternator that I threw in this a.m.. When I get the chance, I'll see about converting the single field alternator over to dual. That way..... I can "alternate" John

QuoteMoparNorm John, I think he was talking to someone else... Anyway, it's fair to say the D3's were around from at least '64 to '68, more likely longer than that.... If so, I apologize to JimmieD. What made me think he was referring to me was his "Quote" of my post. John

OK.... we're landing at PDX on Friday 9/4 around 11a.m.. Looks like a possible "dinner meeting" is in the works later that day.... barring any unforeseen events like delayed flights, etc.. We'll probably be in the Portland area through Sunday at which time we'll work our way up North into WA. John

Terry, I do have some two field "later" alternators I could use. I plan on keeping the electronic v/r in place. Regarding the "conversion".... I have spare alternators I can scavenge a spade plug from. Is there any type of "insulator" that goes between the spade plug and the case? I'm to believe the orange female spade plug is the "second field&quo

For drum brakes, the "big shoe" goes in back. The star wheel/adjusting screws are marked "L" & "R" for left side & right side. John

I'm getting close to firing up an A318 Poly that I put in my '68 D100. As I'm using a '70 cab, I'm also then using the later wiring harness. The alternator is original equipment to the Poly ['66 vintage] and is a single field. My wiring has what I'm assuming to be a second field wire . It is not the temperature gauge line, as that is already in place. In re

QuoteJimmieD Well, John, with yet more b/s sarcasm aside, I frankly don't care who believes what, one way or the other. I've owned & driven many NP435 equipped trucks and the original transmission in my Town Wagon had that different passing gear type ratio for 3rd. It was different from any other 435 I ever drove. I have no idea beyond what I have posted, but that information in tha

Quotebeemrmax Do you ever hear anyone talking about trade deficits anymore, or does that even matter these days? The main stream media is too busy having orgasms over the Obama's vacation in Martha's Vineyard. Facts on the deficit will have to wait. John

According to one fairly knowledgable source, as an aftermarket repair manual, I think Chilton's, this trans was SUPPOSEDLY used one year ONLY, 1967, it featured a different gear set. 2-3-4 were SUPPOSEDLY synchro'd and 3rd gear was a special higher ratio to act as a passing gear. Quotebeemrmax Ok, crap was just my opinion, but I haven't seen too many Chiltons manuals lining the shelves at automotive shops... Many that come to this site, myself included, do not own an automotive shop or work in one. I use MOTOR manuals, FSM, Chiltons and advice from other verifiable sources such as folks from the Sweptline truck sites. John

Chiltons, although not as comprehensive and accurate as a FSM, are not crap. That is my opinion. John

QuoteJimmieD We've had a lot of this conversation before, and more than a little argument, as usual. I'll state again what I caught hell for the last go-round: The NP435-D3 was what came in my '67 Town Wagon from the factory. According to one fairly knowledgable source, as an aftermarket repair manual, I think Chilton's, this trans was SUPPOSEDLY used one year ONLY, 1967, i

I was fortunate to get to see the truck in person when Dan still owned it. At the last MoPar Nationals event I attended in Columbus, OH, several Sweptline guys got together at Dan's house to eat dinner and hang out. A hometown pal of mine, who attends the Nationals every year, stopped by to "see what all the hoop-la was about these old trucks". He's owned and restored

NAPA has done me well in my town. A high school pal of mine still manages the NAPA in the town I grew up in soooo..... if I have any items that might have stumped the guys at my local store.... I hit my pal up for guidance. I get good pricing from NAPA. We also have Autozone and Advance Auto Parts....they're kind of a joke but aren't too bad for oil and antifreeze. John

We'll be out in the Northwest states of Oregon & Washington September 5 through the 11th. I think we're touching down in Portland, OR and working our way up from there toward Seattle. I'm not sure how far East we'll be in either state.... depends on a lot of "unknown" variables  For those who are along our route.... post your location here or PM/e-mail
