Have you had someone drive this while you followed behind to see what the truck looks like going down the road? That's where I'd start. John

Once you remove that manifold from the other Slant 6, you may find that it too won't seal upon installation. You might give thought to having a machine shop "shave" it a bit to give you a level manifold to work with. John

Make sure the distributor housing is completely seated in the block. Sometimes, the o-ring will be tight enough against the block hole as to give the impression that the housing is all the way in when, in fact, it is in just far enough to permit the shaft to engage the slot in the cam gear.... John

The truck looks great. Good to see you deleted the flat bed in favor of the Sweptline box. I'm really digging the 19.5s on it too. John

QuoteGordo Tailgate is sold.! It is a parts truck now. I appreciate the interest but that tail gate sale gets rid of shipping headaches. I believe that is a blessing for both "big bad John:, and I. "Everybody knew it was the end of the line for Big John..." Oh well..... that's just the way the cookie crumbles..... We'll call off the dogs on this one.... John

Gordo, Do you know of any carriers who would transport a truck with no engine? I have a 44,000 mile 383 and 727 from a '69 D100 that would be a nice match. If anyone has used a good hauler for a non-op vehicle.... let me know. John

QuotePwrWgnDrvr Ya John, I know what u are referring to. If u look at the earlier latches, on the back side of the "handle" that u pull forward to release the latch, there is a hook which grabs a bar. That hook is the early version of the secondary latch and it functions to keep the hood from flying open if the primary latch releases. It is easy to overlook it because it is automaticall

QuotePwrWgnDrvr John, there is a "secondary" or "safety" latch on all of my Swepts, from 61 on. I'm not using good "terminology" here, but am sure you know of the re-designed secondary catch that started showing up in '68[?] Anyhoo.... its kind of an ancillary note with regards to the general topic of overriding, past 90deg, special detent hood springs

Quotewally426ci I hear bad things about the Orange Mopar box, but not sure if those problems are fixed.... I have one on my 68 with no issues. I've run the same orange box on my R/T for 13+ years with no issues. I have an orange box on each of my five running/roadworthy Sweptlines.... no issues.... John

QuoteJimmieD For reference for what? Don't understand the question, John. Meaning..... do you still own a Sweptline or are you going from pure ragged memory? What is this 'secondary latch' you mention, John? Per my post, there is a secondary latch or "catch, if you will, on later Swetplines. I can post a pic of the latch/catch striker plate if need be "Let

QuoteRuss BTW, I have a good pair of Sweptline hinges that I would like to get rid of if anyone wants to give me $10 and pay shipping. These things are fairly heavy so shipping a long distance might not be worth it. They came off of my 70 parts truck and seem to be tight. Do they have the special override feature Russ? John

QuoteMoparNorm I think the reason they changed the hood opening angle is because when the 90 degree hood hinges wear, it allows the hood to contact the roof rain gutter lip and dents the hood. Two things cause the 90deg. hood to contact the roof gutter.... worn hinges and wind. The secondary latch began to show up in late '67 to take "wind" out of the equation. John

QuoteJimmieD Thanks, Russ! This is really bugging me because of my '69. What bugs me is the '69 was just your garden variety Dodge truck, low mileage, fairly well maintained by the state or feds & nothing wrong with hinges. Also to my ragged memory all my Swept hoods did this, or else I'd know that some do, some don't, just like I've learned other stuff about these

The 2011 Chrysler cars are built by Chrysler Group LLC, NOT Daimler's, or Cerberus' Chrysler LLC. If you go to the a car show this spring you will see a vast improvement! Chrysler is on the way back. 2010
