Those early Power Giants ('57 and '58) had the NP 201 with a single lever. Don't know if '59 or '60 had the twin stick or not. Looks like a sweet truck and it's a 57. They didn't make a w300 in '57 just the flat fender WM300. Rob

Some of those trucks are in junkyards in Montana. The wrecking yard with the town wagons is north of Helena and they will be crushed by next May. 64powerwagon, you have a PM.

The coarse side goes into the block. I recommend using some high temp sealer on the studs so you don't have to deal with leaking antifreeze. Dealt with that on my Poly 318. Not sure on the length (I think ~1.5" ) and pretty sure they are 3/8 threads. Hopefully someone else will help out....

The cap is a 7 lb. We've tried a 16 and 13 lb cap as well. Since the new heads, it has not been spitting out much water into the overflow. We had a big block 4 core rad in a parts truck, so I dropped it off the rad shop so get cleaned and the mounting brackets modified. Thanks for the help. Rob

All of our trucks have 2 core rads. One of them cools a 340 just fine and the others cool Poly 318's. I am going to get a 4 core built for my truck.

The motor is bored 60 over. I think I just need a bigger radiator like you say. It just has the regular 2 core radiator. We've checked about all the other things Norm and Terry suggested. Thanks for the suggestions. Rob

After putting the new heads on last weekend on my '62 W100 (with a newly rebuilt poly 318) it is still heating up too much. The motor was put in right at a year ago and still cannot keep it cool. I've put about 5000 miles on it and am tired of dealing with it heating up and spitting out coolant. Here's what I've done so far and nothing has really worked: -New heads and gaske

Got the heads back from the machine shop today. Hopefully this will fix the overheating problem. Painted them with Chrysler Turquoise (or green; whatever they call it). I noticed with the new head gaskets that there is a 3/16" hole where there is a 9/16" hole in the head. That may be one reason for the heating problem. I don't know if it's the same for the heads and head gaske

We saw a few crew cabs in Helena, MT. They were all '67 or later (push button doors). There was a 70-71 D300 crew cab (no running boards) and a 1969 D200 crew complete (see "Lots of Trucks..2" post for a pic of this truc.

"Top Hand" Dodge Truck bed. I'd never seen or heard of this before. 1969 D200 Crew Cab A couple of Town Wagons. The doors on the orange one were very nice so we got them. We had been seacrching for a while for some good doors for our Town panel restoration. The owner of the yard said the old Dodge will be crushed next May. :pale 1969 W200 1968 D100 1

The housing is just fine. The machinist who bored out the engine recommended that we check the water pump as well and check the measurements. That never fixed the problem. We never thought of checking the head gasket to see if it was blocking the water. The heads should be done this week so I'll pull the old ones off and check it out. Rob

I am still having problems with my '62 W100 Poly 318 heating up. I added a fan shroud and that helped cool it down very little. When I get back from vacation the new heads should be done and I'll see how it goes from there. I also had the radiator looked at and there was very little sediment in there. Rob

I'll have to ask him today. I think it was out of a wrecked Cuda in LA. He put that 340 in the truck in the mid 70's.

Ya it kinda doesn't make sense. We are only up at his place in Idaho once a year. The truck has been in the same spot in that shop for 5 years now and every time were up at his house we try and get it running and driveable. So in other words it probably will not be out of that shop for a few more years. Rob

I kinda don't think it will be out of the garage for a while. Maybe next year the 340 will be built and it will be driveable. I've been waiting for many years to drive it around. I will send you a picture when it is though. Rob

I worked a little on my Uncle's '61 W100 today. It's been sitting quite a while. I did a complete brake job two summers ago and one of the wheel cylinders had developed a leak, so we took the wheel cylinder apart and found that both of the pistons were facing the same way. The wheel cyls were new when I put them on but who ever put it together from the factory put them in wrong. :

We pulled the second crossmember out of the '64 W200 parts truck frame today. The Town Panel had an automatic trans and the second crossmember was cut for the Push Button Automatic. We were unable to find and/or build a shortshaft Push-Button tranny to allow room for the transfer case so we decided to go with the NP435 for now. Anyways here is some pictures: Rob

My Dad and I went by that place a few years ago around Easter time but I think it was a Saturday and they were closed. Go figure. We have been looking for an early 4X4 CC. Sad to hear the clean black CC was crushed. Rob

My Dad and I installed the NP 435 trans this morning and took it for a test drive a while ago. Runs pretty good. Still needs an exhaust system but it always feels good to drive around with a new motor with no exhaust. It gets loose on the dirt with Sure-Grip rear end. Rob

What color was the red that dodge used on the transfer cases and manual transmissions in the early 60's? Rob

We haven't put the transmission (4-speed manual) in yet. Are the flywheels all balanced the same? Are they the same balanced flywheels as would be in a LA318? I guess I'm going to have to find one. Rob

We used the flywheel off of our 64 W200 parts truck with 318-2. We had it resurfaced. I don't know about balancing the flywheel. Rob

What models did the 540's usually come in? How do you tell if it has overdrive? Does it use the same bellhousing as the 420's/435's? Rob
