well the wife and kid took off to el paso leaving me alone at home for the day...WOO>>>>HOOO!!!! truck time, uninterrupted. i managed to get all the lights wired in and working for the gauge package i installed a few weeks back, and in the process found out that there was no light on my fuel gauge cause the wire had been robbed for the tach lighting. so that's all reversed, an

when i did my swap i went from a 3spd to the low gear 435. all behind a poly. i reused the 3spds flywheel, throw out bearing and pressure plate and just swapped the clutch disk for a 23 spline. just be sure you use the same diameter clutch disk and your all good. also, measure the area for the pilot bearing, i cant recall if i had to swap it or not.

you know i have owned from 1963 thru 1971 sweptlines, and numerous ones down the middle. all of them have had door issues i had to correct, we have all been there, push button don't work, the catch is wore out, inside handle wont open the door, etc etc etc. but you would think 20 years later they would have sorted it out. my 89 is giving me fits trying to get the doors to work. it started wi

sold the Buick on Tuesday, and part of the offer included a trade. cash was right, trade pleased me, so i went for it. so now i own a 1989 dodge half ton short/wide bed. it was described to me as "ugly, but runs good", well, "ugly but runs" should have been the description. the body is solid, no rust but a lot of small user dents and scrapes to the paint, the interior is prese

you are dealing with a very out of date power steering system that was made as more of a power assist rather then a full on power steering. the problem as i see it is the 33x12.5 front tires. they are only about 10 times larger then the system was designed to handle. then you throw in all the small problems, worn bushings, less then perfect alignment, worn springs etc... none of which are bad by

nope, i had a poly in both that had the low gear 435. both were half tons, one 66 with a 3.55 gear, the other 66 with a 3.91. the 3.55 truck had 235/75 tires and the 3.91 gear had 31x10.5 tires and 32x12.5 at different times of life with me. also had the second 66 with the low geared 435, pushed by a poly and had a 2.76 rear gear with 31x10.5s at one time.

coming from a guy who swapped transmissions for that very reason, if your hauling and towing find the 668 first gear. it makes a huge difference over the 456. there is only 2 ratios listed for the 66 in the fsm for the d100 and 200. that granny low 668 gear is a beast when your hard loaded, but pretty much useless any other time. like mentioned above, there is no outward way to tell what trans

the front axle will be longer then the back, all the old 4x4's are. measuring off the rims is NOT a good measurement to go by, you need to be measuring from the brake backing plate. unless you know for sure, beyond any doubt, that all four of your rims are the exact same offset, you may be getting fooled by a mix match set of rims. the crabbing you speak of is really common in the 4x4 circle

she would go absolutely nuts to get to ride in a real one. we have a 2-3ft drop in some places between the fields and the driveway, she has been cruising up and down it. she even figured out real quick what parts are too high to go up, and that the really big section is the most fun to go down. the kids fearless, there is about a 6ft drop between the road and the field a little way down, she was

i don't disagree with your reference to TQ being made by the stroke. but on top of that, if your gonna go RB, all strokes being equal, the extra displacement can help out. chances are its gonna have to be bored during the rebuild anyway, might as well go to a stock size. a good low rise dual plane, the proper carb and jetting and a cam made for low end will do the trick. regardless of what R

cam and intake choice will determine how much low end that engine will have. the extra displacement will only help the low end if the rest of the engine is built properly. if i remember right 413 and 426 share the same crank, same stroke. cam it right, carb it right, and let it breath. youll have a stump puller.

on my 71 with factory air the hoses went straight to the core, no transition tubes thru the firewall. looked like it was born that way, but who knows over the past 40+ years. the rubber hose came straight off the core, thru the firewall and went to the water pump on one side, the other came straight off the core, thru the firewall, to the heater valve (cable operated as mentioned), then to the ma

i used a piece of thin wall vacuum line on mine. cut it the right length, then split it down the length and feed onto the steel with some trim adhesive to hold it all still before feeding the water lines thru. i think from the factory it just had putty around them, but i thought it was a rub thru waiting to happen so i added the "grommet"

there is stuff inside the pump, it has a check valve and a pressure release in there. the no power problem is usually a weak or broken spring behind the pressure check valve. it tends to leave it open where it wont build the pressure needed to help with steering.

the eddy carb is a better street carb then the holley will be, but you will feel more grunt from the holley. sounds like the problem is your truck is a bit cold natured, my buick is the same way. there is a period between not still cold, but not fully warm where she runs like crap. in my case its just the nature of the beats and i "cured" it by being sure i let her warm up before expect

your choke is releasing too fast. i have delt with this myself numerous times. the electric choke is more of a timed choke that doesn't go off engine temp. electricity hits the coil, and in a certain amount of time it is heated fully and opened fully, unlike the other choke that is heated by the engine. so on most American v-8s you will not stay in the partially choked position long enough.
