Terry,
I know the pattern and size is the same, but some sixes assembled from the opposite side as the V8, so the holes may either not be threaded, or threaded on both bell and block at the same hole locations.
I know that is hard to read, so here are two photos, of manual bells for comparison.
V8 Bell, with all threaded holes needing to be on the engine block.
Slant 6 bell, with block holes, unthreaded and the Bell holes threaded.
I'd have to assume that the automatics would be similar?
