For the 70's Regulator with early Alternator you need to make new connections.

Looking at the Regulator connector plug it's triangular with the point of triangle and a terminal toward top and another terminal on right hand side bottom of connector. Top terminal, point of triangle, is connected to Alternator Field + and to Ignition +. Lower terminal on right of triangular connector is connected to Alternator Field - Negative. Another wire is connected from Alternator + output terminal to battery Positive.

Another way to describe it: Run one wire from Alternator Field + Positive to [usually Blue] Ignition wire that goes through Ballast Resistor and on to Coil Positive, with a jumper on that Blue wire to upper terminal [at point of triangle] on Voltage Regulator.

Run another wire [usually Green] from Alternator Field - Negative terminal to lower right hand side Regulator terminal.

Make sure you have a good ground between new style Regulator case and firewall/engine ground strap, clean bare metal connections. If Regulator is mounted to fender it may be necessary to run a ground jumper from inner lower fender to upper fender and from fender to firewall, to make continuity with engine ground strap and Battery negative. Clean bare metal body connections.
