Yes, with the transfer case in 2wd, the engine is not connected to the front end. But, without lockout hubs, the wheels will turn all the front axle gears and shafts when the the truck is moving. It is foolish to put that kind of wear on all those parts, especially the U-jts in the wheel hubs.

Ok so you're firmly in the lock out hub camp. Good to know as I've seen people on both sides (for and against). It seems that the arguement as you put it so nicely is to save on wear vs. the requirement to get out of the vehicle and manually lock the hubs (which may not always be practical).

I've seen some hub lockers on ebay and places - is it a simple matter of installing them?
