ok, so georges comment about masking an underlying problem has been ringing in the back of my head and wont go away. i have been running without the a/c since the issues started, and as of late, its been hot, but the car has been behaving for the most part. still runs hotter then it did before, and

a couple of times in the last 30 yrs of rad repair ive seen loose impellers on waterpumps,they were working ok when cold,but loose and not pumping when hot,and i had one myself that the pump shaft actually slipped forward in the bearing/seal and ate the fins off of the impeller
,might be worth a good hard look!
