no you shouldnt have to rebuild booster unless its leaking. rebuild the master and what ever else then bleed it out normally bench bleed the MC and when you install it the booster has bleed screw or screws on it. bleed it there before moving on to the wheels.

I am rebuilding one right now. the truck might have chromaly top ring. the machine shop should be able to tell you if the ring thicknesses are the same as car. i am upgrading to flat top car pistons for higher compression and the new pistons come with rings. Bearings on b blocks are the same. I know the trucks used full groove mains not sure about cars.

fill plug should be a square head or hex head pipe plug. the slotted screw with lock nut is one of the pay adjustments.

so I put the carter on the 361 and went back to mechanical pump and that brought mileage to 10 plus now. I have not done any real long runs yet for a good test tho. When i put the carter on it was used and thought i could just bolt it on and see. it ran way better than the holley with more power but accelerator pump was bad. I bought a rebuild kit and took top of and the piston for metering r

I have since figured out its a 361 for sure. No its not original. the previous owner had it and then bought a school bus from a dalles Oregon (I thin vehicle auction. The district policy was they had to rebuild engines before selling to public. he took the engine and NP540 direct trans out and put it in the d300 in place of the original poly. Soo much torque. I hauled 4600 lbs of gravel on

kits definitely a B. pretty sure 361. I hauled 4600 lbs gravel on the highway then though back hills last week and could still start out in 3rd gear. ;/) like driving a diesel. so much torque

the smaller carter is only 285 CFM. I don't know what the stromberg is but much smaller than the big bore carter. the big one has a bigger bolt pattern than the stromberg and the smaller carter. I had to use adapters to make mine work because my BB has manifold for small bore. was worth it tho. the holley ihad on there was typical bad running holley garbage.

this is the carter they ran on big blocks. the CFM is 375. the CFM on the stromberg is only 285. I just put one of these on my 361 and it runs excellent. if someone needs a core to rebuild here you go:

thx I am stoked now. I was thinking of going back to a poly if I couldn't get better than 7..... 10 i can work with. And now I have an engine that will last as long as a diesel. Dodge had so much faith in the truck 361 and 413 they warrantied them for 100,000 miles back then. and that is in a commercial truck. cant even get that now!

The fuel pressure is way too high. I think the electric fuel pump the previous owner put in is for a fuel injection set up. I went from 7 to 10 mpg. thats a big difference percentage wise. Now I think I will stay with the 361. My goal has always been to get 10 plus and have a big block. now maybe time for a nicely tuned AFB and dual exhaust might squeeze a few more MPG out of it. The muffle

is it just a switch for fuel or does it have sending unit wires running through it? some do so when you switch it over the gauge reads the correct tank.

could the problem be in the 3 position switch?

now with the carter I have tons more power and runs great but no improvement in mileage. I cant see engine stampings because the truck size water pump set up and compressor unit is in the way. going to pull a plug and measure the stroke. Or... is there a way to tell from casting numbers on side of block whether 361 or 413?
