Thanks for the advice. I dont know why they just didnt weld the nut in place. The nuts holding the front clip are welded in nice and tight. Oh well, this is the first slow me down mis hap on the whole project. Ill put up with it. should be able to get it out if I enlarge the small peep hole. Fish

Well, everthing was going OK untill I got to the drivers rear body mount. Nut is spinning inside the metal cage that is supposed to hold it. I pulled the seat to get a better look. Put a wedge between the nut and metal cage, broke the metal cage. Now I am prob. going to have to cut a bigger hole to get in the space under the tank( the factory hole is too small to get anything in there to hold

To any new sweptliners here, I cant believe how much slop and play I have in all of my body to frame mounts. Rubber has been thinned over the years and bolts havent been tightened. I can lift the cab off the frame by hand a good 1/4 inch!!! Do you think this was the sorce of a lot of rattles and harsh ride??? Check yours out!!! fish

The paint peeling is the biggest push factor for me. It will be 2 YEARS of scrubbing, sanding, prepping, degreasing, sanding, grinding, welding, filling, cleaning, then repeat times 4!!!!! I do not want a leaky MC to ruin my day. I do not have good luck keeping these things leakproof. The thought of all my hard work getting trashed is very disheartning. I think Im going to try dot 5. I think the best way to go is to just buy a complete kit for the 70s early 80s truck from energy suspension or just suspension. I can get this for 75 bucks and the rear insulatrors would be polyurethane. This is cheaper than paying 25 a piece for original rubber. I ended up using a mud flap that matched the material almost perfect for the small square rubbers in front of the cab and front clip

I know what Im going to do. I did find a heater core with the control valve hidden in the heater box. Unfortunately its froze. Im going to put in a small lever type valve in the system withen the congtrol box. My hand will fit in the air vent box to turn it on or off. This should work fine! I dont know what type my 65 originally had. Its a new mexico truck. I do not have any heater co

Check out the restoration CD of a 68 sweptline that Jim has for sale. It has a great pic. of the original headliner and the reproduction that he used with tape mesure in the background. Ive gotten a LOT of references from this cd for my project. Fish

My 65 doesnt have in cab heat control. Was the set up a valve in the heater hose under the hood? If so, what did it look like? Does anyone have a picture of the factory set up? As it is now, there is no way to shut off my heat, its on all the time. I just have blower control. Thannks!!! Fish

Another question for you guys. Im tired of leaky master cylinders ruining my firewall and my slave cylinder goes bad every 3 years because of moisture and rust. Silicone seems to be the answer for me. Im really thinking of swaping over to it. Anyone else running it? Will a normal system take it with no mods? Pluses, Minuses, pros, cons? Ive only heard that brake feel will be a tad so

Hey guys, Got some questions and updates on my project. To refresh your memory, Im dropping in a 360 in my 65 sweptline. The engine is done and should pull a house of its foundation. Built for low RPM torque to pull my trailer. Ive got the engine bay painted and it shines like a million bucks! Goal is to drop the engine in next month. Here are some questions for you. 1. Real cab moun

HI everyone. After a break from my truck this summer Im back at it, getting it ready for a new 360. Can anyone tell me about how much my truck (65 D100 long bed helper springs, frame reinforcement ) weighs? This will help me pick out the cam. Thanks, Fish

The 360 project is going slow but sure. I finally was able to sandblast under the hood and other pieces like manifolds, intake, hood hinges, inner fenders. The weather has been so bad, rains almost every day. The ears on the 360 block are different than on the 318 and visual inspection looks like the mounts are different. What have you guys done for mounts in this swap (318 to 360).

Good news! I looked at my parts truck ( a 66 3/4 ton, stepside, slant six, 4 speed) and it still has the heater core with the tube extensions and grommits! Why didnt I think to check it out sooner, I dont know. The grommits still feel soft, not brittle. Im going to pull them out today and see if all is salvageable.

Now I understand! I like the idea of haveing the 3 inch small section of heater hose inside the box. Yes, it is very awkward taking off the hoses when they are going through the fire wall. Ill make some tubes and do it the right way. Thanks a ton guys. Mystery solved. Just detailed out pullys and throttle fire wall bracket. Still waiting for dry weather to sand blast frame and part

Maybe I doint have a stock heater core?? My tubes coming off the core are short, they dont come near reaching into the firewall holes. They look factory though. I wonder if anyone else has this set up with the short tubes. Maybe I have a generic heater core that would be able to fit many models since the tubes dont go through the holes?? Sounds fishy

Wide block, that is a great idea!!!! Yes, Sharp metal edges close to heater hose is a accident waiting to happen. The thin wall vacuum hose split to go around the edge of the hole is perfect. It will also give a more finished look. Thanks a ton. Detailed the master break and clutch cyl. this weekend, look great. Bough cast iron gray from Summit Racing, very happy with how it covered. Goi

My 65 just has the heater hose coming out of the firewall holes, not metal tube extensions of the heater core. There is no rubber grommits around these holes. Im haveing trouble finding grommits that are thin enough to let the hose come through, the hole is pretty tight. Any suggestions on a source for these?? Fish

It lookis like the only white for 65 was sand dune and that chip matches up so sand dune it is. Weather has beenb STINKY STINKY STINKY, in ohio. 50s and rain for what it seems like eternity. next 10 days same thing. Im ready to sand blast parts of my under hood area and frame, but cant due to rain. Detailing small parts such as time cover, master cyl, fan, ect.... Plated the cover of th

If it is a choke prob. and you cant get it to open at the right time, you could go back a few years in tech and put in a man choke. Its not a big deal to operate choke funchtion yourself, I kinda like the total control of it. One more potential possibility, maybe you have a cam lobe wiped out?? This will cause poping through the carb also. I agree with gordo though, start with the sim

My truck is an early 65 D100 (quad head lights, round tail lights) The white isnt a bright white but a creamy soft looking white. Im having trouble finding paint chips. There is a metal tag on the firewall with a 4 digit number. I dont think this is the paint code though. Ron
