On this same topic, what seems to work best is what I call the '3 Click Rule'. You should be able to find your needed information in 3 Clicks on a website.

Once a main website loads, ragardless of subject or purpose, the Home page should show exactly what the website contains. Here are major topic headers & corresponding buttons. Lets say a 'Printer Ink' website?

'Click' to choose a topic of interest, 'Epson', and you arrive at another page with section headers for model numbers. Here you narrow the search to a particular area and 'Click' on a button, 'Model 5000'. That takes you to a page that has subsets of information, more specifc: Black cartridge or color cartridge? You 'Click' on 'Black' and the search should be over, all in 3 Clicks.

That's the same as walking down to the 'Records' dept and entering to find a room full of neatly labeled filing cabinets, divided into room sections. You walk over to the 'Epson' section, then look for the cabinet marked 'Model 5000', and see the drawers labeled, and choose 'Ink' drawer. Opening it you find manila folders, one for Black, one for Color.

Many years ago while working for the Uncle Sammy my Supe took me to a large room in the basement. We walked in and there filling up the room was a pile of individual pages of paper about 5 feet high & 20 feet or more across. He said, "There's a library in here somewhere, Jimmie, let me know if there's anything you need..." slapped me on the shoulder & left.

3 weeks later I presented him with a 7 section library in a room full of nice, tidy labeled filing cabinets with neatly labeled drawers, each with labeled manila folders inside. The comical thing was that this was a search & rescue mission for one INCREDIBLY important file that had been mis-placed for months. I found it. I also got a raise & promotion.
