I see the poll is way in favor of categorizing the forum. But more interesting, are the comments posted on the subject. Of those who are willing to express an opinion about it, it runs 5 to 1 AGAINST a separate forum. The negative comments make very valid points. What are the reasons FOR it? All th

Well, first off, this ain't no "reference library" where the sole purpose is to search for highly categorized, classified and archived items. Many folks are NOT actively looking to buy a truck, but if its posted where they see it, they get interested and maybe pursue it. Marketing 101 u know - ever go to the store and all the specials are stacked in the aisles? I want as much exposure as possible for my ad.
Conversely, if Im wanting a part, why the hell would I put it in a place where fewer folks will see my posted need? That just severely limits the chance of success.
Ex: A post was recently made about a CSS ute on ebay. If it were not in the main area of focus, few would know about it. Did u ever consider that those who are NOT looking to buy would still have an interest in seeing something special, rare or unique that was for sale. Likewise, a CSS crew on ebay was posted for all to see, comment on, etc. It belongs in the spotlight for all to see and review, not in some back room where only moneybags congregate.
I own around a half dozen trucks tnx to postings on the forums, including the only 2 known CSS utes.
As for 3 clicks, ya, thats plenty to find what I want. BUT, the way it is now, it takes 2 clicks to even get to the buy/sell section and back, just to see if there is anything new or interesting. There is no "new" flag for it, so if I want to check for new stuff several times/day, its TWO clicks each time, just to find out there is nothing new! Worse, if there is something to read, after reading it, it takes multiple back clicks to get back here, or 2 more to return thru the main page.
I am also still using dial up, and very sensitive to loading time. The way it is now, its a retarded waste of time. NOT a timesaver as Jimmie tries to claim.
Ive been on these forums a few yrs longer than jimmie, Ive seen all the formats and changes. I saw Scott show up, start his own forum and eventually take over Kris's. I was a beta tester for Gordon a few yrs back when he started the PWA forum. Far and away, the old bravenet format was the simplest, easiest to navigate and fastest to read of all of them. Scotts sucks. period. Banishing buy/sell here is the same mistake Scott made on his. Next we need a technical help section. Hell, just look at that massive topic about Gary's fan problem. Having to scroll up and down past that all day long is a real pain if u dont give a rats behind about it. It doesnt belong here on our General Chit Chat page.
btw jimmie - if u want to find something, there is a search function. It will find it WHEREVER its buried - no need to scroll up and down the index page looking for it.

The same rules of access still apply regardless of website content: Find what you came for quickly & easily, in 3 clicks or less.

Those who are not looking to buy but who still have an interest would logically visit the 'Buy/Sell' section.

From the main forum page I just clicked 'Buy/Sell' section. Because the forum is new and there's an Annoucement it's necessary to again click to arrive at the Buy/Sell forum. That would not be so after the annoucement of creation of new forum section is gone. So, from the main discussion page it is ONE [1] click to 'Buy/Sell' then simply scroll down the page, once that announcement is gone.

As for it not being a timesaver on dialup that's simply incorrect, as I previously described. Without a separate section a person has to go and scroll through the entire message area until they stumble across items for sale or wanted, including those with a poorly thought out message title. If one is looking to buy it's certainly faster to go to the For Sale section! What you're actually saying is similar to saying that the newspaper would be a lot better if the Classified Ads were scattered through randomly on whatever page they end up on instead of in the Classified Ads section. If you're looking to buy something just data mine the entire newspaper, maybe you'll get lucky & find something for sale? No way.

"Hell, just look at that massive topic about Gary's fan problem. Having to scroll up and down past that all day long is a real pain if u dont give a rats behind about it. It doesnt belong here on our General Chit Chat page."

I sure don't follow you on the comments regarding Gary's fan. One can either click on the thread or not click on it, so I don't see what you're talking about having to spend all day long scrolling past it. It's exactly the type of topics that are always found in the general discussion section and it belongs there.

Regarding the Search feature, thanks, but I've known about things like that ever since my father was Chief Administrator of the Data Processing Center for a large California County Admin & Schools system, back in the early to mid 60's. That was things like IBM or Univac magnetic tape drive storage & retrieval, before transistors, microprocessors & printed circuits became widely available. I've been involved with computers for around 45 years, so not exactly a breathtaking or earth shaking revelation here, thanks.
