A size reduction in the tubing, or changes in fluid volume, can cause a change in velocity, not sure a bend of the same diameter can do that?
IMO the bend was installed to minimized the effects of vibration, to prevent cracking or breaking of the tubing.
Many early Land Cruisers had hydraulic clutches with straight tubing runs. It was very common and fun for us Jeep guys to get to fix their disabled clutches for them when they broke down, because of ruptured tubing....= )
And for the record, the last thread was locked so that we wouldn't have any more of the vitriol over this issue...
