I think it's obvious from the several pages on the subject that you guys may not understand a whole lot about the science of hydraulics. You know a whole lot more than the average guy about the nuts & bolts part, how to service, repair or install, or even modify, but not the fluid engineering & science of it. If you do have a background in Fluid Engineering say so, okay?

As it mentions at the top of that linked page, 'Clutch Line Modification - Removing Damper Loop'. The damper loop dampens surge [shock waves] in the hydraulic line.

He then mentions, "For some this mod is done purely because they like the stiff, live feeling of the pedal afterwards. You have a closer connection with what your clutch is doing." By that he is saying that the stock, original damper loop works so well in dampening surge effects that it takes away clutch 'feel', or direct feedback. Clutch has stiff, live feedback afterwards because dampening is removed. The dampening comes from the Damper Loop, mentioned at top of his page, which is going to be removed.

"The hard line from the clutch master cylinder comes down to the lower block. This block has a loop back line that acts like a surge tank, taking pressure off the system. This is what causes the weakness. The short hard line then routes to the soft slave cylinder line. What we will be doing is eliminating the loop back and both blocks."

There he states that the loop back line 'acts as a surge tank, taking pressure off system'. If you will do some research to educate yourselves you'll find that a surge tank is used to eliminate or dampen surge, which surge is shock waves pulsing through the fluid. In order to give immediate feedback in clutch pedal feel and in order to increase hydraulic pressure to a stiffer clutch he is going to remove the surge damper loop, which 'acts like a surge tank'. You can see the damper loop in first & second picture there. In third picture it's shown as removed.

He then removes the loop line, as in the damper loop line, and plumbs the hydraulic line direct, without a damper. In the final picture you can see the new brake line, and the distribution block from old setup, where the surge damper loop which has been removed was connected.

The science or engineering of it is that a loop in the hydraulic tubing carrying fluid slows down the velocity of the fluid because of the bend in the loop. That loop, slowing down velocity of fluid, takes away some of the direct feedback to clutch pedal.

I posted links to many pages of information on that subject along with the formulas or equations to calculate velocity change. If you did the math according to those formulas and your calculations show that the science of it is incorrect, then please post the errors.

If you did not do the math or cannot do the math then how can you say that a damper loop - surge loop - surge coil [all the same function] in a hydraulic line does not slow down surge or shock waves in a hydraulic system?

Did you guys do the math & calculate?

Do you understand the fluid science/engineering of surge loop dampening?

Or is it that this series of pages on the subject is the first you've heard of it? [That certainly appears to be the case]

I'm not talking about nuts & bolts stuff of swapping parts, rebuilding automotive brakes, replacing worn components etc. Do you have direct experience in hydraulics engineering & fluid science to state that a surge loop is invalid as a way to dampen hydraulic surge?
