the "surge coil" is a strategic maneuver (I think the credit goes to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, or Sun Tzu, my mind gets foggy...) best described by the rush of combatants who then form a circle whenever this "fascinating" topic comes up, yet again... ;-)
Did anyone see pics of the underhood of '68 D200 I posted the other day? Very pretty dual coiled lines under the brake master cylinder, IMO they can't be there for any other reason than flexibility.
But, then... my thoughts gravitate towards intelligent design. And, what a miracle it was that after someone obviously spent years burning the midnight oil to come up with this ingenious design to calm fluid velocities, prevent hammering, etc... that we ended up with pipes that are flexible as well, thereby preventing breakage of said lines from cab twisting, engine straining against its mounts, etc.
Boy, talk about killing two birds with one stone! You could hardly ever do that with a horse... well, maybe with a catapult... and a very large stone!
