It seems in posts over the years that some MAY have found new ones but I can't confirm that. Otts deal with this every working day so I will go with what they told me about 15 years ago when I first used them.

You are right Otts is a good place for clutch repair and parts. I had mine done less than a year ago because the pressure plate broke an eye bolt and would not release. Really sucked since it was right before hunting season. They have told me 1"x10 spline clutch centers are no longer available and have not been for a long time. I think the 300 might be bigger but don't know without

I had 5,000 lbs of rock in my W200 ONCE! Weighed in @ 5,700 and out @ 10,700. Won't do that again. Even as far forward as it could be loaded and the air bags pumped higher than normal it wanted to go all over the road. Kept it about 40 and even that was nearly white knuckle time.

A bit of frame information. They are NOT all the same as mentioned earlier. I used to also think they were but I had a D100 short bed 2 wheel drive and the frame was a noticeably thinner gauge. I miked it to make sure although I don't recall the exact thickness since it was some years back. Of many I have looked at in wrecking yards over the years this was the only I have ever seen.

I drove the PW with my high school buddy sometime in 1970 across the hills from Scappoose and ended up seeing one house and a hand written sign that said Bacona pop. 8 so I know where that is for sure. LOL

I don't know how long Denny Vonwald has lived in the Buxton area but since I have known him in the late 70's so they very well may have crossed tracks at some point. Others I know are newer than that AFAIK.

Even smaller world I would bet your Grandad knew or knows more than one guy I used to work with from our time at Portland Fire Bureau! Several come to mind live near the Buxton area and may even have been volunteers.

I also had thought about both him and Russ Ashley in the last week or so. I sent Russ a link to let him know so he may come on.

Because of the crossmember with the hydraulic clutch they will not clear. I have a friend who is very good with a mig and had a cutoff wheel. He managed to shorten them enough and get them welded back solidly with no leaks and clearance to get around the crossmember. It would be much easier and probably cheaper in the long run to just use a good set of shorty headers. Unfortuaely I did not bo

I used a set of Hedmann 79250 headers on my '67 W200 but adaption was required. I have seen recently on Portland Craigs list a place here in Vancouver selling a nice looking set of shorty headers. I don't have the link but it will probably crop up again. Seems they were pretty reasonably priced also.

Was just thinking about you a couple days ago as I drove near your place. Good to hear you are still around.

Also make sure the joints are timed (aligned) properly. If not you will get vibration. You could ask Dad about that if he was still around. I replaced a u joint in my W when he had it but neglected to mention this. He called to ask why it was still vibrating and had virtually no clue when I asked if he had reassembled the shaft correctly.

He just posted a picture of his wife on FB and made comment. She is a whole bunch better looking than he is! I was able to meet him on the way back from New Orleans and he's pretty good guy. Even helped us move a pretty heavy piece of furniture IIRC.

Russ, glad you stopped by. Don't be a stranger. I had a great time again and appreciate your taking time to visit when I could get there. It is very important for me to see David Jones. He is not in the greatest health and I literally owe him my life. I would not have come home if not for him. David and Diane have a place in the north GA mountains where they are moving to so not s

Thanks John. We had a great time and but really got sucker punched (in a good way) by current troops and their Commanding Officers. B company graduated from Basic on Friday but not all stayed and really missed out. There were several other companies also but not 1/50th. Jay Coplay said let's give them a real hand and as the whole company passed the grandstands we gave a standing ovation

I spent most of a week @ Ft Benning, GA for our 1/50th Infantry reunion. Great time and a number of new faces plus I met another @ ATL while waiting for a flight. He knew nothing about 1/50th assigned to Benning, our net site or the reunion. Another one found! Of interest to some here is that I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with Russ Ashley. Unfortunately he sold his Sweptline and n

Wrong style U-joints to fit the earlier style. Early use the strap type. The later shafts I have seen also used a smaller joint.

John, Those bigger mirrors tend to get in the way out in the woods. Just ask my brother. He thought he could get out of the canyon to our hunting campsite 2 years ago barefoot in the snow. He was wrong and ended up right against a tree with his rig. His is a Ford with bigger mirrors. We unbolted it to keep from damage although my smaller mirrors would not have been any better in that spot.

Mark I believe the later cab mounts up until '93 are the same or close enough they require little or no modification. I got the lower half on mine by ordering for a '73 since I had owned one and knew they looked the same. No mods done to them.

It has been over a dozen years now but I got a new tinted one from a glass shop in PDX. It seems like there was a post several years ago they were no longer available new so wrecking yards might be your only choice. I am in them around OR and WA fairly often and am not seeing many sweptys and have yet to see a slider. Wildcat auto wrecking in Sandy, OR had a number of sweptys a few years ago.

Americas Tire and Discount Tire are the very same outfit. When Discount moved into the NW there was a conflcit with another store using a similar name. To prevent legal issues they used the Americas name in some of the NW. I thought it was all over here but I saw a Discount last week around the Seattle area. BTW, there is also another arm called Discount wholesale or something like that. Coup
