I heard tire prices took a good jump several months ago so it fits I would get some after the jump. The way it always works for me it seems. I did check on Nittos about year ago and they were not much less expensive then than now. And the ones I put on are even a bit more than your high number. So far so good with them. Seem very stable which I can't say for some others I've had

I don't know what the hardness reading would be on these but from driving and hands on I would guess pretty hard. I've only put a few miles on them but so far they drive very nice. We now have 4 vehicles that drive equally well and that seems to be saying something for a 2nd Gen Ram. It instills as much confidence as I feel with any of the others which has not been the case before no

I just put a set of 285/75X17 E rated Nitto Dura Grapplers on my Ram. 3970 lbs load rating. Not as much money as you found but still plenty @ Americas Tire. I did find them cheaper on-line and they did meet the price and knock some off for taxes and their all inclusive replacement guarantee. That was so this store got the biz instead of the one across the river in OR which has no sales tax.

And not all 1/2 ton frames are the same as 3/4 ton. I had a '68 D100 that had a thinner gauge frame. It was very noticeable with the naked eye. I did not have the equipment to accurately measure it at the time and it is now long gone but be aware to check for it. I have not seen another like it but if one exists more likely do.

None of the yards I've hauled out of are truck only. Most of them do have some 2 ton sized rigs sometimes. They are usally out the first or last load and are a pain since we are working to get up to weight on that type load since those don't usually get crushed. Buses are worse yet. Almost always kind of a bear to cable down. I expect this to change over time since we are no l

I actually wrote something like that first then changed it. Almost all the yards I have hauled out of have auto wrecker in their name somehow and we shorten it AW. Almost changed it to that but otherwise I stand corrected.

QuotePwrWgnDrvr Ive got a stack of the 18 gal tanks and have shipped them all over the country. The senders are the same on 61-69 18 gal tanks (and smaller). However, the 23 gal tank from 70/71 uses a different sender. There are also some mounting differences over the years. Some have the holes in different places and some use different bolt brackets welded to the cab. I was going to say Te

Yes indeed! I sure knew what DW meant after that one. I had driven 4 axle tractors with a drop down tag part time for quite a few years but that was the only time I had anything like that happen. I eyed them rather suspiciously for quite a while after that. Fortunately the place I fill in now only has 3 axle tractors but we do pull 2 trailers part of the time.

I have experienced the so called death wobble (as opposed to a "shimmy" ) one (1) time in my life and I NEVER, EVER want that experience again!!! Belive it or not it was the tag axle on a 4 axle Peterbilt. The load was light enough to not need the tag but with a fixed 5th wheel too far forward to do without it being down legally. I was going about 25 on an on ramp and saw the tires s

The death wobble is not a new phenomena by any means. Dads first 4x4 was a '41 WC that had it if you hit a RR crossing or hard bump at anything over 30 MPH or even less sometimes. We have had issues with it on just about every 4x4 I have been around although I don't think on my '67 at all. We said the front end had a shimmy. Usually related to front tire balance but not always.

I agree with Jimmy about the EGT's. Those morons claiming to run 15-1600* temps WILL take out a piston or worse eventually. I don't know what they think is so cool about being stupid. Probably the same guys claiming 25+ MPG with 37" tires. I have been around class 8 rigs most of my adult life and 1250 is the prescribed absolute long term pulling limit for EGT temps. I do unde

It will be sad to see the forum go but good to MAYBE see the "Parts Pile" motivate under its own power again. I guarantee it will bring back some great memories for you as mine did and continues to do for me. We'll have to figure a way to get them together. Best of everything to you for your health and continued long life and 4 wheelin'! Remember: always keep the shiny

The Lukes Link has fixed my track bar for quite some time now and for a lot less money than BD's fix. That does work well though and probably will do something similar eventually. Mine drives pretty decent although I will admit not quite as well as the PW. I do have a steering brace and it made ZERO difference in mine. I think you need something already wrong to make a difference. I go

The only issue I've had with my front end has been the track bar. Everything else is original still. I replaced it once and that one got loose eventually so I used a Luke's Link on the OEM and it has been fine for many miles. I did just rebush the other end today. The Carter pump is another story. They were junk in the 60's and are the same junk still. Didn't last th

I have about 173,000 on mine and has been very good. I did have to replace a couple lift pumps until I got smart and put a Raptor on. I am just finishing up resealing the vacuum pump so it doesn't dribble oil any more but that's a common issue with almost all of the 24 valves at some point. Been very reliable.

You should be OK to leave it in OD as long as you don't lug it too low, especially the diesel trans. The lower RPM the diesel runs does not allow the stock VB to build enough pressure to hold very well. Some of the same likely holds true with a gasser also but much less so. This is not from me but Tony Garcin who probably knew more about automatics than 95% of trans guys out there. Forme

QuotePwrWgnDrvr The towed vehicle is almost always heavier than the towing vehicle. Just look at every tractor trailer combo on the highway! True that. The Pete's I drive weigh about 14,000 lbs. When I pull an A train fully loaded I am at over 105,000 lbs. That means the trailers (2 of them) weigh in excess of 90,000 lbs. I have even pulled over Hood in the snow and the Pete seemed to

I was about 99.9% sure '69 was the first year. I have a 3.55 Sure grip 489 in my '69 Swinger. It is a cone style and not nearly as well thought of as the 742 clutch style. The 489 has the tapered pinion with a crush sleeve for bearing pre-load instead of shims. That part is not well liked either but there is a solid spacer replacement available so you can shim the pre-load as is don

I just checked my '01. Even though many like to say it is too new to worry about having the KDP guess what? Nothing to keep it from falling out except the tab I installed.

If you have the juice clutch it won't clear the clutch master. That's the reason for the stand off bracket. Not needed with an auto or the later clutch system.

QuoteKaegi that is true but you could of had some bad linings. Napa used to sell a premium lifetime guarentee shoe that was so hard that lock up was unachievable at any speed. they made them that way so no one would wear the shoe out. they dont sell them anymore for good reason. That was when it was nearly new and still had the original factory shoes. The originals on both ends are not very

QuotePwrWgnDrvr QuoteJerry in Idaho How do you know which one you've got? One is big, one is small.... Leave it to Terry to simplify things. I have to admit that was my exact thought also. I am a bit late to the game on this one but I see talk about using a booster. A booster will not improve braking at all with no other upgrades to the brakes. All a booster does is require les

QuoteMoparNorm Ha! Ha! Point of view noted. LOL. Point of view is right. My point of view was watching Duane spend about an hour once a week polishing brass. He liked it but I wasn't into that at all. I will admit to spending a lot of time for one inspection polishing the aluminum diamond plate. Enough so the inspecting Chief thought it was Stainless. Duane did like that and I did

Actually Norm, chrome is the way to go. Very low maintenance and stays looking good. Now if you blast the chrome off like Duane did on our engine then you have a lot of polishing to do. Fortunately he did NOT get his grubby hands on the truck fittings so I did not have to spend my time polishing brass. I worked on my fishing gear instead. Very nice looking rig.

Actually the Learn Burn is a pretty good system once you figure out how it works. I had a 400 Cordoba about 25 or 30 years ago with it on and it did pretty well after I educated myself and discovered it was not really junk.
