I'm not disputing your expertise. Maybe my '66 just had the wrong fender tags, or maybe the answer is that my brain is rotting. The truck was already old when I bought it, who knows what happened in the meantime. I'd bet my life that it had the split rims though, so I guess it was a D-200. -Kle.

I am not an expert, you guys are much more knowledgeable than me on this stuff. Like I say, that '66 was 30 years ago, Maybe it was 6 lug, if the 2WD never had 8? It was split-rim for sure, Getting new tires put on was a PITA. That "spare" could have been anything, really. It was pretty clearly never used, at least not for decades. No air, rubber hard as a rock. -Kle.

Okay, if you say so. I was just looking for wheel size / type / bolt pattern info so I could point the guy to sources. That said, there were certainly "half inch" sizes out there, although looking in my shop manual they were on tubeless, one piece rims. My '66 D-100 had split rim, tube type wheels on it. It was a pain in the ass, finding people who would touch them. I "t

What's on it now, the 16.5" split-rims? A lot us US manufacturers make single-piece rims that fit, if you want to go modern style tires. -Kle.

Let me see if I can figure that info out from my Motors / FSMs. It'll take me a little while, and I am no engine internals expert, so no guarantees. -Kle.

Have you tried replacing / lubing the cable? In my experience, that's usually the cause of screeching. -Kle.

I can't even begin to help with your question, but I'd love to see pics of the truck. Can't be many W-500s left in the world. -Kle.

Yeah, pretty much anything pre-2000s is being banished. They are essentially not the same company they were before and they are trying to cut connections. In fairness I suppose, they ("Stellantis") are trying to remain in business, and it isn't really looking all that good for them. Sad days. -Kle.

Used to work at a garage with a machine shop - owner/machinist dropped Comp and went (mostly) to Crane, not because of wipeout, but because the Comps kept coming out wrong when he degreed the engines. They would replace them with the right grind, but the loss of time was a nightmare. What I have been hearing about cam wipeout is that it's just as often the lifters not being correctly grou

Might be the sending unit, too, or something in the wires. You can get an Auto-Meter (or whatever brand you like) gauge and hook that up, or there are people who can fix/replace the one in the dash: for example. You can also find the gauge units for sale on EBay etc, sometimes. Might want to check and see if the voltage regulator for the gauges is stuck, if it is, it'll fry all

If it steers and tracks very well and doesn't leak, I wouldn't touch the box with a 10' pole, but that's just me. -Kle.

I use Brad Penn / Penngrade 20w50 in both my old 383s. It's a blend too, I have had zero problems and nothing but good to report. This stuff's supposed to have the flat tappet additives that most modern oils don't, any more. Only problem I've ever heard of with synthetics in old engines is sometimes the built-up sludge in a poorly maintained engine is the only thing keeping

Ouch. A grand seems steep. Of course, plating has been declared evil nowadays, so it's getting hard to even find platers. I guess that runs up the cost. -Kle.

I've never been that ambitious (and actually I prefer the painted grills), but I've polished the aluminum side-spears on my Polara with metal polish, and then waxed them. That worked pretty well for a while. If you want it real shiny, maybe you could fond someone to plate it? Good luck. -Kle.

You can take the glass out. If you open up the door panels to access the regulators, the glass is (in every one I've looked at) just held in the carrier by friction with the rubber "gasket". You can lift it out and at least drop it down in the door, if not actually turn it and get it out the window hole. Fair warning, if you have that little clearance between the wipes and the g
