Cash for Clunkers has been labeled a success. It's primary purpose is to remove gas guzzling vehicles from the road. It has done that and with better expectations than anyone could have imagined.
If the Government is going to give you "free money" then why not take it. If you are ready to trade up to a newer vehicle there is no better time than now to do it.(I realize the program has ended)
I know we are car people and we don't like the Government influencing what we drive but who is going to turn down more than what their vehicle is worth. Nobody is going to give you $4500 for an 80s Dodge truck.
It's been labeled a "success" by the morons in government who thought it up, no surprise there.
It has removed a huge number of American built vehicles from the road and replaced them with 72% foreign vehicles. Makes me warm and fuzzy that my tax money is going overseas. That means less parts at salvage yards and higher costs for the remaining used vehicles and parts left.
I feel sorry for all of the auto workers called back for two weeks, and now they will be sent home again, maybe for good, as we have just robbed vehicle sales from the next two or three months. Only 2-4% of the transactions have been approved. I would be so bold to say that in 4 MONTHS we will still be hearing about dealers who were screwed out of their money by the feds. Success indeed.....
