Bought my '69 with 65,000 miles on it, so hood wasn't worn out. All later Power Giant and Town Wagon, Town Panel had the full-opening hood. Full-opening hood was introduced in 1957 as a sales promoting feature. Town Panel's came out in '54, but these had a different hood than later Power Giant styled trucks.
The hoods open to the normal position about 45* or so, but drop it a little and then lift to overcome the spring detent [over-center it] and it swings all the way back to rest against the windshield. The spring detent is fairly heavy, so a gust of wind won't blow the hood from 45* first stop, to slam up against the windshield and cab.
