cast iron is plain and simple a more durable material. I dont think anything threads into the water pump so aluminm will suffice. when a vehicle has threaded holes in to the pump I would buy iron if I had a choice.

you have to determine which one you have by comparison. and whether you want aluminum or cast iron. see link

OK then another reason to suspect teh head gasket between the 2 cyliners. but if HG was leaking it proabably would not be running great with new plugs......

Looking at those compressions results maybe you have a leak in Head gasket between drivers side rear 2 cylinders? 55 adn 70 are real low. was your test done with the throttle open or closed?

me too, I have only had one Mopar with electronic and it never gave me any problems. but I have had a few GM products with stupid HEI that were not reliable at all. If one plug wire would go bad raising the resistance in the circuit, it would fry the other parts in the dist. seeems like to fix stupid HEI always costs 120 bucks or more. and that was 15 years ago!

I was tuning up a 1935 chrysler Airflow and looked up the dwell in the spec in the book it said something like 31.5 degrees, not 28 to 32 like many other vehicles, just 31.5.! talk about a specific setting. I agree with Terry on the Dwell meter. MIne is broken and it aint in the budget right now to get another. so gotta gap only till I can borrow or buy one. nothing is more accurate thana dw

I went and swapped out the coil and ballast resistor as I had a brand new resistor sitting around. still would not run after warmed up!! was defintley not getting spark. so obviously I head to the distributor as all wiring is sound. pull cap, pull rotor, crank over and the points are not moving! This distributor is NOS and has less than 3 K on it. I went to loosen the screw to free up the p

the problem is spark! strange thing. drive for 15 minutes around town make a few stops, shutting off and restarting, after 3rd time stoppping and shutting down, will not start again 5 minutes later. I no longer have volt meter but was able to determine that I have voltage at both sides of ballast resistor when not getting spark, but dont know how much and the coil side without the meter. as s

Yah I have seen people use the copper high temp. I just dont like the way it looks. copper goo sticking out the edges of the gaskets. accousti seal is black. I hope it lasts

well tell us what you did? I like the foil idea. but I think would work best when used with the accousti-seal. and someone else mentioned retorquing. absolutely with any headers.

tried WOT no luck. tried pumping, no luck. sometimes they will not vvapor lock till you shut it off and everything heats up, (no fan blowing air and water not circulating equals hotter than running temps for 10 mintues or so)

Teh 62 D300 with poly runs great but in the last few days when you drive somewhere get out to run in the store quickly, come back out, it wont start for 10 or fifteen minutes? coil not gettting hot, ballast resistor not gettting hot. dont think I have any vapor lock in this weather? but the flange gasket on passenger exhaust manifold is leaking towards the fuel line. any ideas? it kinda seem

Yes you can use regular gaskets. I did exhaust work for 12 years. what ever gaskets you use cover both sides with Walker Acousti-seal. or the napa equivalent. it is black nasty stuff but works great. take a file to the header surface also. they are rarely flat.

just went to the ford site and you cant get a stick in a 1/2 ton at all either but you can still get a stick in a 3/4 ton with a gas engine. Has the world turned into a bunch of ipod carrying candyasses or what !

I stand corrected. I went to dodge .com and you cannot get a stick with a gas engine in a full size truck!!! WTF! what a joke. they gotta change that or they will cease to be in the truck business. I think many many customers still prefer the stick and will walk to the ford dealer when they want one.

I have not gone and looked at what they have right now. I try to stay up to date on what is out and how it performs. Fiat does not own Dodge. I think their stake is either 17 or 25 percent. 55 % owned by employees/union nad Daimler owns some still I think and the USA owns a small chunk. It is being run by Fiat. hopefully they dont run it into the ground.

Yup I found that after I posted but it is a lame description and no pics of how. a 40s or 50s Power Wagon manual would have all the pics and better instruction.

that is a great condensed explanantion Terry. But liek you said go to the manual! these brakes are non servo and adjustment is very important. servo brakes find there own center in the drum these brakes do NOT. I think there is an inspection hole in the outer edge of the drum so the shoes can bet set correctly using a feeler gauge. my 1962 FSM does no cover these brakes.

Also HD back in the beginning of the company years was full of Swiss engineer immigrants. befroe WW2 the best engineers moslty came from Switzerland. Adn they hired Germans as assistants

Maybe they dont have the light duty numbers due to variences in state laws? I know in WA that GVW is determined by the curb weight of the vehicle.
