QuotePwrWgnDrvr Sure is nice to see it on the road. Did u have any rubber left after 40 miles on the 426? Seems like a lifetime ago when u started the conversion of a late model 300 cab into that 64 200 cab. still some rubber left... trying to take it easy on it for the first 100 miles since everything has been refreshed. it does seem like lifetime since "we" started on this proj

QuoteRuss Ben, the truck is looking super good. I'd love to see it in person. I gotta' agree with Trey about the chrome vent windows and division bar, it would really shine on your black truck. It does add about $300 and a lot of work and time to the project though. You have to completely dis-assemble the division bar and vent frames, which means drilling out all of the rivets that hol

Trey - i am going to run the original full-face caps that came off a 55 Plymouth. they will look really cool on it. i thought about Russ did but i really like the minimal chrome that was on the 64's... even when they were like mine and had all the chrome bits it was still understated... but on black the parts that were chrome really popped. i'll take it fully to my vision of what

Hi Ron, it is so close to being done i can almost taste it. we're re-spraying the bed on Sunday along with the tailgate letters (in white) and then i'll put in the side glass. the front and rear windows are in and it just blows me away how much the truck has come together with them in place. the right rear axle is bent so i need to replace it... the truck runs like a ch

the AAJ kit and the scarebird kit both use the stock spindles. with the AAJ kit you'll need to slightly modify the spindle to both clear the aspen rotor and tap the bottom ears to bolt the steering arms on. i have a couple things i learned in this process to make it easier. the scarebird is such that you knock your old drum off the hub and you use a ford rotor on the dodge hub. both

Trey - good points... it is rarely cold in FLA and the days i was shooting it was in the uppr 70's/low 80's with about 60% humidity (dry for FLA). i think the problem was poor technique in painting, crappy HVLP, and the process i used to degrease the primer (i did not use a wet and dry rag). live and learn! blocking it all out again and will respray it in the coming weeks.

this looks really nice. i like the fact that the rack is on the back side of the axle. around my farm i need to be careful with my 03 ram since the rack in on the front of the cross member. i nearly "racked" it on a log that i didn't see when moving a trailer around...

Quotedakota dave after looking at the pic again i see the engine has a rear sump pan, likely why he chose to put the rack on the front of the axle. my truck came with a front sump pan (and u believe a lot of our trucks came this way, not all but a lot) so the rack would likely have to go in the rear. this could be the best answer i have seen yet as to power steering on these trucks. looks

QuotePwrWgnDrvr Details eh, ok here's a detail. The slip joint in the column is not for "bump steer". It is to keep from shoving the column up and down vertically. Without the slip joint, a bump would NOT cause the wheels to move right or left, so it would continue to track as it was. Bump steer can only happen if the geometry changes between the gear box and the wheels. Not betwe

QuoteMountainMoparRobin1 How wrong can you be1 Please actually read them and ask questions that haven't been answered with the very first post! 2 things are needed to eliminate bump steer. 1 steering geometry. Everything in alignment under all conditions 2 suspension travel, full contraction, & fully extended, #1 has to be maintained, As you should understand from what I posted, the r

QuoteMountainMoparRobin and this statement doesn't describe how bump steer would happen, for if you hit a bump, how is that creating bump steer? we all hit bumps everyday, does this create bump steer? no! a bump does nothing to the axle, or the stock height trucks would have bump steer, so this isn't a good representation of bump steer, however if you see that the rack moves with

QuoteMountainMoparRobin the rack is attached to the straight axle, movement happens to all components at the same time, everything moves, the 2002 Dodge trucks have a shaft that has 1 ujoint at the column, then where it attaches to the power rach it has a slip joint, bump steer happens when the steering system has a bind, because the geometry isn't in alignment, have you heard of 2002 Dodge

QuoteMountainMoparRobin don't understand how bumpsteer would even be brought up, look at the picture, how is it going to bind? the axle moves up and down vertically... if you hit a bump and the steering geometry is wrong it will steer funny because of the bump to the axle. the shaft placement would need to compensate for bump steer and your photos and descriptions do not effectively exp
