Just for comment, the original engine in my strange Town Wagon was the 1967 318-3 Poly, solid lifter, 168 HP with Carter BBD, of course cast iron & single exhaust. It had very strong bottom end & midrange, and really, it held on all the way up but not making a lot of power on top after maybe 4,500-4,700.
I imagine that engine would have shown a pretty large HP increase with a 4bbl, if 202HP was stock passenger car 2bbl numbers, and 260HP is 4bbl numbers: almost 100 more HP with a 4bbl, but it would no doubt take a cam to get there, and dual. I think the BBD was around 325 cfm?
Opps, sorry, correction: bugging me so I went out & checked my data tag: 164HP @ 3,900 rpm. So you could say a 4bbl would be real close to 100HP increase.
Had a buddy in '62-'64 that had a Christine looking '57, with factory 318 Poly 3-2's, best factory cam & factory duals. He regularly ate HOT 348's and 352's so bad they tried to ban him at a couple of strips! They were sure he wasn't stock, but after a couple of tear downs he proved his point: 'Mopar Rules!'
