For what it's worth; when I overhauled the 318 in my '65 D200, I put in an r/v grind cam, port matched the heads and manifolds and modified the stock cast 2 bbl intake to match a Holley 350 cfm 2 bbl. Basically I used a die grinder to port the openings at the base of the carb and opened up the passages. The truck has gobs of torque over the original set-up and the Holley is easy and cheap to tune. With the 4.10 gears I regularly get at least 16.5 highway and 14 or so lugging around town.
